What’s Undone?

In the tradition of Karina Longworth’s You Must Remember This and Catherine Clément’s Opera: The Undoing of Women, Undone is devoted to the untold and under-told stories from classical music’s history, tugging on the threads that make up a centuries-old tapestry of performers, concerts, works, and composers.

New editions every other week.

What do I get for subscribing?

Free: One weekly story delivered straight to your inbox. Simple as that.

Full Experience: A $5/month (or $50/year) subscription to Undone comes with the occasional additional content, usually a deeper dive into that week’s installment. It also supports your friendly local journalist and the work and research that will go into each story in a time where arts journalism can use all the support it can get.

Who’s writing this thing?

I’m Olivia Giovetti, editor with and contributor to VAN Magazine. Prior to that, I was the former Classical & Opera Editor for Time Out New York and a former host and writer for WNYC stations WQXR and Q2 (now known as New Sounds).

My arts and culture coverage has appeared in NPR, The Washington Post, Lit Hub, The Millions, Electric Literature, Artsy, Architectural Digest, OZY, Paper, and Gramophone (where I had a monthly column for the North American edition).

I’ve also written program notes and essays for the New York Philharmonic, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Miller Theatre at Columbia University, EMI, Deutsche Grammophon, and Delos Music. As a one-time playwriting major, my dramatic writing has also been heard in a few off-Broadway showcases and, more recently, onstage at the Brooklyn Academy of Music as part of the Next Wave Festival.
